Lead Guitar Lessons Online

guitar shredderOnce they've got "the basics" under their belts many guitarists go searching for lead guitar lessons. Sitting around the campfire and strumming sing-along tunes is fun for awhile but eventually the urge to become a screaming lead guitar player hits most of us rockers.

I believe that the best way to take lead guitar lessons is to find a competent teacher who will listen to you and teach you the kinds of things you want to learn. But I also realize that is unrealistic for many people; money, time and location can make it nearly impossible to take lead guitar lessons from a living, breathing human being.

Books and instructional DVDs on the topic of learning lead guitar abound as do free lessons on the Internet. But does the old adage that "you get what you pay for" hold true for free advanced guitar lessons online? I've spent a lot of time attempting to hone my lead guitar skills with free online guitar lessons so I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite sites for lead guitar lessons.

The folks at Gibson have a vested interest in making you want to become a better guitar player. So they do a great job of providing current/future Gibson owners with an array of lessons in different styles and for different skill levels. Famous session man Arlen Roth serves up a daily lesson.

UltimateGuitar.com has been my go-to site for guitar tablatures for as long as I can remember. And they feature hundreds of lessons for all skill levels. Additionally, you'll find information on guitar scales, bass guitar lessons and scales, soloing, chords and one of my favorite, "correct practicing".

http://www.guitarmetal.com/

Heavy Metal doesn't particularly appeal to me but I don't think I've ever met a guitarist that didn't wish he could shred (self included). This site presents lessons as simple as "How to Tune Your Guitar" to advanced techniques like sweeps, arpeggios, and double hammers-ons in the style made famous by Eddie VanHalen. Plenty here to keep you busy for a long time.

There are three great sites full of lead guitar lessons. If I've missed any of your favorites please feel free to leave a web address in the "Comments" section below.
