Learn and Master Guitar Review
from Legacy Learning Systems

Learn and Master Guitar is authored by Steve Kern who is renowned as both an excellent guitarist and an excellent teacher. Steve has played in symphony orchestras, rock and jazz bands and done studio work for Grammy winners Donna Summer, the Fifthe Dimension and Isaac Houghton. He's one of those often unheralded musicians whose contributions are requisite for those artists who end up walking the red carpet because, in no small part, of his efforts.
Some detective work on the Internet turned up scores of users of Learn and Master Guitar singing the praises of Steve's teaching methods. His MO goes something like this:
He begins the lesson by letting you know how much time you should set aside for his instruction. Next comes the lesson. He explains each technique clearly and concisely; what's great about the DVD is that if you don't quite 'get it' the first time around you can pause, rewind and do it again.
Part three is your 'homework' assignment. Like any skill, learning to play guitar well requires time in the 'woodshed' working on techniques until they become second nature. Finally, Steve asks a series of questions in order to help you determine if you 'got' the material just presented. If this all sounds like working with a 'real' teacher, well...it is. Except if you get a text message during the lesson you can shut him off and check out what's happening with your friend!
Product description
"Learn and Master Guitar" contains:
- 20 high-quality DVDs
- 5 jam-along CDs
- A 108-page instruction book
If you've never played along with a band you're missing something real special--and that's what you'll experience with the CDs that come with "Learn and Master Guitar". There are jam tracks for many different styles of music; jazz, rock, blues, country, so you'll be able to "sit in" with some of your favorite songs. I'm really impressed with how Steve hired musicians to record these tracks; you won't be jamming with computer-produced loops but with real players.
For those of you who are more into learning from the printed word (that would be me!) the manual contains all the same information that Steve teaches on the DVD.
Product Research
Pro's of "Learn and Master Guitar":
- Uncommonly high-quality materials (DVDs and CDs).
- Learn at your own pace; no pressure to perform in front of a teacher.
- Excellent support forum.
- 60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee. Don't like it? Retun the course materials for a full refund; no questions asked.
Cons of "Learn and Master Guitar":
- It's kind of pricey. As I write there's a 3-day sale; $100 off the retail of $249. On the other hand, that's about the cost of 10 private lessons.
- The sheer volume of material might be intimidating to a beginner.
